Sizing & Selection Reference

Concept Definition / Rule
ESP Emergency Standby Power — backup only during utility failure, not for continuous use
PRP Prime Rated Power — unlimited annual hours, variable load, allows short-term overload
LTP Limited-Time Prime — prime rating for limited hours per year
COP Continuous Operating Power — 24/7 constant load, highest reliability
Three-Phase Current I(A) = S(kVA) × 1000 / (√3 × Vll(V))
Active Power P(kW) = S(kVA) × PF
Motor Starting Multiplier DOL ≈ 6-7×, Star-Delta ≈ 2.5-3×, Soft Starter ≈ 2-3×, VFD ≈ 1.2-1.5×
UPS Derating Oversize genset by ~1.5× UPS rating unless alternator is rated for 100% non-linear load
Altitude Derating ~10% per 1000m above sea level (check OEM tables)
